KT Black Cable Ties are weather resistant due to the UV Stabilized Nylon 6/6 material.

This allows the cable ties to be used in continuous or extended exposure to outdoor sunlight. The nylon cable tie is a weather resistant grade, enduring additional ultraviolet (UV) light.

This grade is produced by incorporating Black Carbon in the nylon resin. UV Stabilized Nylon cable ties are available only in black and have a life expectancy of up to 10 years in direct sunlight.

KT Black UV Nylon Cable Ties are available in Light Duty, Medium Duty, Heavy Duty and Extra Long. All black Cable Ties are UV treated and therefore are suitable for use in outdoor environments. What is a Cable Tie?

Cable ties are usually used as fasteners. A ratcheting system allows the ties to be tightened without causing damage to the individual cables or wires. Cable Ties may also be known as ‘Zip Ties’.

Cable Ties are commonly used to harness and bundle items, usually wires. Functioning like straps, cable ties are available in miniature sizes for holding small loads, and are also fabricated in long lengths and strong tensile strengths for large items or bundles. Most Cable Ties feature serrated “teeth” on one end, which function by locking inside the head, located on the other side of the strap.

Once the pointed tip of the cable tie has been pulled through the case and past the ratchet, it is prevented from being pulled back; the resulting loop may only be pulled tighter. This allows several cables to be bound together into a cable tree. Cable Ties can be customised in numerous colors or dimensions, according to application requirements. Additionally, cable ties may be UV-protected or manufactured using 304 & 316 Stainless Steel.

How are Cable Ties Applied?

Cable Ties can be applied by hand, or by using a Cable Tie Gun, depending on what the Cable Tie is being used for. A Cable Tie Gun is a tensioning device or tool that is used to apply a cable tie with a specific degree of tension. The tool may cut off the excess Cable Tie with the head in order to avoid a sharp edge which might otherwise cause injury. Some applications require that a Cable Tie Gun is used, due to requiring a specific tension to meet specific standards and requirements.

KT 9 Pin Trailer Plug & Sockets with 50Amp Power Connection

 

The KT 9 Pin Trailer Plug & Socket is the first Trailer Plug & Socket on the market to contain an in-built 50Amp Connector. This provides the perfect solution for the user who requires a Trailer Plug connection with the ability to also power applicances requiring a 50Amp power connection directly from the vehicle.

The 2 Pins are rated at 50Amps and suitable for use with 8mm₂ Cable (8B&S), while the 7 Pins rated at 35Amps suit 3mm & 4mm cable. Common applications for the KT 50Amp, 2 Pin Trailer Plug & Socket & the KT 9 Pin Trailer Plug & Socket include providing power to camping fridges and other appliances (requiring a 50Amp Power Connection) from your vehicle. INSTALLING THE KT 9 PIN TRAILER PLUG AND SOCKET:

Installation is as simple as removing the 2 screws on the outer casing of the 9 Pin Trailer Plug or Socket.

Loosen all 4 screws on the 50 Amp Connection wire entries and each screw for the 7 pin connection wire entries. Strip cable approximately 10mm and feed into the correct wire entry as per the wiring
diagram. The 50 Amp Connections use the Positive (Red) and Negative (Black) wire entries. The 7 pin connections use the Green (Right Indicator), Brown (Tail Lights), Black (Aux/Reverse), White (Earth), Blue (Service Brakes), Red (Stop Brakes) and Yellow (Left Indicator) wire entries. Tighten all screws securely ensuring no wires are exposed outside of the connector wire entries.

Replace outer casing and tighten the 2 screws.

 It is also recommended to use a fuse inline with one of the circuits

OUTBACK KEV’S EXPERIENCE WITH KT HEAT SHRINK MINI SPOOLS

G’Day, Kev here,

I have been travelling around quite a bit lately and I like walking in and out of little automotive and hardware stores, picking up odds and ends that I might need on my next trip.

I just so happened to notice these KT Heat Shrink Spool Mini Spools in most of the stores I had been into so I had to see what all the fuss was about.  They were well priced so purchased 3 different sizes and thought I’d give them a run for their money.

I have never used heat shrink before, I always used to do it the old bush way and wack some duct tape over the exposed wiring connections, but now with the times changing, I don’t think that’s considered safe by most anymore. Anyway, it seems heat shrink is apparently what everyone uses these days for sealing exposed wiring connections etc.

Before I handed over my money, the bloke at the counter asked me if I had a gas torch to use with the heat shrink. I had no idea what he was talking about. I would have assumed you just use a cigarette lighter – shows how much times have changed. He showed me a demonstration on how to use the nifty little tool. What a fantastic little gadget! I had not realised how easy it was to use, and how small it was. I could throw it straight in my tool box.

 

First of all, I noticed how well packaged these Heat Shrink Mini Spools are. I could chuck them in the back of the truck and not have to worry about the dirt and dust getting into them. They also don’t unravel which is a bonus! Don’t you just get a bee in your bonnet when you have to waste time rolling something up because it has somehow unraveled itself?

So anyway, after purchasing a KT gas torch and my 3 Heat Shrink Mini spools, I was on my way out to this really great fishing spot. It’s a pretty rough track to get out there, and I would not recommend taking it if you were not experienced in four wheel driving. I passed many low hanging branches on my way out there but this one caught onto my spot lights on my roof and tore through some of the wiring – bugger!

 
That’s when I remembered I had bought some of that KT Heat Shrink! I got my trusty tool box out with my KT gas torch – here’s a tip – never go out bush without a tool box. It could save your life!

I stripped the broken wire ends back just enough to be able to twist them together again, cut some heat shrink to size and slid it over one side of the wires.  I then twisted the stripped wires together to form the connection again. I slid the heat shrink over the exposed wires, grabbed the KT gas torch and heated up the heat shrink, shrinking it down over the connection.  After a 5 minute repair job, It was good as new! I didn’t even have to worry about the rain getting to the wires as it was completely sealed.

So after my experience with my damaged wiring, I then researched into heat shrink and found out that KT sells heat shrink in many different forms including Lengths, Retail Mini Spools, Blister Packs, Heat Shrink Spool Mates, Heat Shrink End Caps and even in assorted kits. It is even available in a wide range of sizes and various colours! I also found that KT provides an adhesive heat shrink which gives even more protection as when the heat shrink is heated up using a gas torch, the internal adhesive melts onto the cable forming a secure connection.

It really is an amazing product and good quality at that! It was only meant to be a temporary fix for me, but so far it has lasted. What’s that saying again? ‘If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it?

’I would recommend KT heat shrink to anyone who has a vehicle or goes out bush, even just keep some in your vehicle. You never know when something as simple as a broken wire, could get you stuck in a rut.

What are Snap Bushings Used for?

What are Snap Bushings and what Applications are they used for?

Snap Bushings provide a quick, simple and low cost means of protecting cables, hoses, ropes etc, from damage from raw edged holes. They are commonly used in applications where wire and cable can be exposed to sharp metal edges and rubbing. Adding Snap bushings to your metal compartments help eliminate abrasion and protect the wire and harness from abrasion and cutting. KT snap bushings are made of Snap Bushings are manufactured using black UL approved Nylon6/6 and feature a flammability rating of 94V-2.

Snap bushings are as easy as they sound; once you have your hole cut, you simply snap the bushing into place.

What is the Difference between an Open Snap Bushing and a Closed Snap Bushing?

An Open Snap Bushing (as displayed in the below photo) has an open end at both ends to pass cable through a surface such as a wall. This protects the cable from raw or sharp edges.

UL approved 6/6 nylon. Flammability rating of 94V-2. Snap Bushings are designed to protect from sharp edges where you may be running cable and hoses through metal objects.

A Closed Snap Bushing has one surface Sealed and is used to seal a hole neatly (as per photo below) This prevents anything being passed through the hole. The Snap Bushing can be easily pushed into place using pressure of your fingers. This may be a temporary seal and can be removed easily if required.

Once side of the Closed Snap Bushing is Sealed to seal off holes.

What are Cable Glands?

Cable glands are used to firmly secure electrical cable entering a piece of equipment, and provide a seal between the external and internal surfaces of the equipment. Cable Glands are designed to protect cable as it passes through walls, cabinets, or switchboards. Unlike grommets, Cable Glands tighten around the wire to act as a seal.

What IP Rating is Specified for KT Nylon and Metal Cable Glands?

KT Nylon Cable Glands are tested and certified to IP68 in accordance with AS1939-1990. KT Metal Cable Glands and are tested and certified to IP68 in accordance with AS1939-1990. All KT Glands include a Lock Nut.

What is an IP Rating?

The IP Code, International Protection Marking, sometimes misinterpreted as Ingress Protection Marking, classifies and rates the degree of protection provided against the intrusion (including body parts such as hands and fingers), dust, accidental contact, and water by mechanical casings and electrical enclosures. It is published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The standard aims to provide users more detailed information than vague marketing terms such as waterproof. KT PVC Electrical Tape (or insulating tape) is a type of pressure-sensitive tape used to insulate electrical wires and cables. PVC Electrical tape has some degree of electrical insulation due to the nature of PVC. KT’s range of PVC Tape is based on polyvinyl chloride film coated with rubber based pressure sensitive adhesive It has a high adhesion, chemical and weather resistance and is suitable use with automotive and marine applications.

It can be applied to a variety of surfaces due to its non-corrosive adhesives which make them unlikely to react with the surface they are in contact with. Low tack protection PVC tapes actually have high tack but have low adhesion which enables them to peel clean from most surfaces and conform to textured surfaces quite well.
